In the spring of 2017, the Centre for Biomedical Ethics and Law (KU Leuven) organizes the third edition of the successful intensive course ‘Justice and Priority Setting in Health Care’. This course is an excellent occasion to reflect on present and future ethical challenges regarding choices in health care.
Brain Plasticity in Epilepsy
Epilepsy is a network disorder of the brain characterized by an enduring predisposition to generate epileptic seizures and the neurobiologic, cognitive, psychosocial and social consequences of this condition. Time is ripe for a reunion of neurologists, neurosurgeons, imaging specialists and neuroscientists to address the role of brain plasticity in epilepsy. We will review plastic changes in brain networks in epilepsy, animal models of epileptogenesis, and how we could influence these processes.
Summer Course: Ethics in Dementia Care (5-7 July 2017)
The number of persons with dementia will rise considerably in the years to come. The increasing prevalence of dementia and the treatment and care for people with dementia present a myriad of important ethical questions and responsibilities. What do we think of the quality of life of people with dementia and of their subsequent end of life? What are the opinions about vulnerability and dignity in case of dementia? What do we consider to be ‘good care’ and ‘a good death’ for persons with dementia?

The study of human sexuality has long suffered from the fact that sex is a sensitive (if not taboo) subject in most Western and non-Western societies. Welcome to one of the largest Forensic Odontology conferences in the world. We invite you to participate in the 2017 IOFOS International Conference on Forensic Odontology, organized at the Catholic University Leuven (Belgium), September 14-15, 2017.
